Jeremy has over 12 years' experience as a private music teacher and holds a Bachelor of Contemporary Music from the Victorian College of the Arts. Alongside his private teaching, Jeremy works in secondary school settings, teaching individual and group lessons and running ensembles. With a career as a performing and recording musician spanning over 20 years, he brings practical musical experience into every lesson, helping students develop strong foundations while learning music they genuinely enjoy.
Lessons are relaxed, encouraging and structured, with a focus on building confidence, solid technique, rhythm and musicality. Students can learn through songs they enjoy while developing chord playing, strumming, fingerstyle techniques, music theory, songwriting and general musicianship. Lessons can also incorporate songwriting, music notation and beginner bass guitar where these support a student's musical goals.
Whether your goal is to play your favourite songs, accompany yourself while singing, or simply enjoy learning a new instrument, lessons are adapted to suit your individual interests and pace.
The Glen Iris teaching studio is conveniently located for students from Glen Iris, Malvern, Malvern East, Caulfield, Carnegie, Ashburton, Ashwood, Camberwell, Burwood, Chadstone and surrounding suburbs. It's within walking distance of Gardiner station, as well as the 72 and 6 tram lines, with weekday daytime and after-school lesson times available.

I generally teach students from around age 7 and up, depending on readiness. Lessons are available for children, teenagers and adults, and are tailored to the student’s age, experience and learning style.

Definitely! I regularly teach complete beginners on drums, guitar and music theory. Lessons focus on building strong foundations, confidence and enjoyment from the very start.

Drum students are encouraged to have access to a basic practice setup at home. Guitar students will need their own instrument. I’m happy to advise on suitable beginner equipment.

For primary school–aged students, I usually recommend 30-minute lessons, or 45 minutes for students with particularly good focus.
For secondary students and adults, 45 or 60 minutes both work well. In 45 minutes we can get plenty done, while 60 minutes gives us more space to go deeper if you have the time. -
Student safety and wellbeing are very important to me. I hold a current Working With Children Check and complete ongoing professional development in child safety standards as part of my work within a Victorian government school setting.
In addition to my work as a music educator, I am also a qualified counsellor registered with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA), and I work within clear ethical, professional and safety guidelines. Lessons are conducted in a respectful, supportive and age-appropriate manner at all times.

Yes. I work with students from a wide range of backgrounds and aim to create a respectful, inclusive and supportive learning environment for everyone. I have experience teaching students from different cultural backgrounds, students who identify as LGBTQIA+, and neurodivergent students, including those with ADHD. Lessons are adapted to suit each student’s needs, strengths and learning style.
