GUITAR LESSONS
Looking for guitar lessons in Hawthorn? Jeremy offers personalised guitar lessons for children, teenagers and adults from a private teaching studio in Hawthorn, close to several local schools. Whether you're picking up the guitar for the first time, returning after a break, or looking to build your confidence and musical skills, lessons are tailored to your interests, goals and experience.
Jeremy has over 12 years' experience as a private music teacher and holds a Bachelor of Contemporary Music from the Victorian College of the Arts. Alongside his private teaching, Jeremy works in secondary school settings, teaching individual and group lessons and running ensembles. He also draws on almost 20 years' experience as a professional musician, bringing a broader understanding of performance, songwriting and playing with others to his teaching.
Lessons can be as relaxed or structured as each student needs, with a focus on building confidence and developing solid foundations in technique, rhythm, and musicality. Beginners and developing players can learn through songs they enjoy while working on chords, strumming, fingerstyle, reading music and tablature, music theory and songwriting. Whether the goal is playing favourite songs, building skills for school music classes, accompanying yourself while singing, or simply enjoying guitar as a long-term hobby, lessons are adapted to each student's pace and interests
The Hawthorn studio is well located for students from Hawthorn, Hawthorn East, Kew, Camberwell, Balwyn, Canterbury, Richmond and surrounding suburbs, with weekday daytime and after-school lesson times available. It's within walking distance of Hawthorn and Glenferrie stations, as well as the 16, 70 and 75 tram lines.

My guitar lessons are best suited to beginners and developing players. I can help students build strong foundations in chords, strumming, rhythm, fingerstyle, music theory and general musicianship, as well as learn songs they enjoy.

Drum students are encouraged to have access to a basic practice setup at home. Guitar students will need their own instrument. I’m happy to advise on suitable beginner equipment.

For primary school–aged students, I usually recommend 30-minute lessons, or 45 minutes for students with particularly good focus.
For secondary students and adults, 45 or 60 minutes both work well. In 45 minutes we can get plenty done, while 60 minutes gives us more space to go deeper if you have the time. -

TESTIMONIALS
“My son has been taught by Jeremy for a few years now. The progress he's made has been incredible and he absolutely loves attending his guitar lessons. Jeremy is a patient, supportive and knowledgeable guitar teacher. We’ve been so happy with the experience and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great music teacher!” - Emily V
“I’ve been learning the guitar with Jeremy for a year and a half. He is a great teacher who explains things really easily and clearly. He also makes it fun. I really like the way I can make my own song suggestions and he’ll work out the music and teach me to play the songs that I want to learn. I would definitely recommend him!” - Eva T
“I am 66 years of age, didn't know what to expect and picked, what I know now,, is a very tricky instrument in the Guitar. Jeremy is kind and patient and I never leave feeling like I haven't achieved anything. If I want too focus on one thing, Jeremy is happy to oblige. If I want my head filled with theory, chords and scales, I walk out with exactly that.
On top of learning some songs, and loads of chords, I have begun jamming using just a few notes of the pentatonic scale and it is very, very satisfying. Thank you Jeremy
You are now stuck with me.” - Amanda T
