Jeremy holds a Bachelor of Contemporary Music from the Victorian College of the Arts and has over 12 years' experience as a private music teacher, alongside ongoing work in secondary school settings running individual and group lessons and ensembles. With a performing and recording career spanning over 20 years, he brings genuine musical experience into every lesson, along with a good understanding of how school schedules shape a student's practice routine.
Lessons focus on building confidence, solid technique, rhythm and musicality, covering chord playing, strumming, fingerstyle, music theory and songwriting, all built around music students actually want to play. Music notation and basic bass guitar can also be covered on request, for students wanting to broaden their playing.
Whether the goal is playing favourite songs, building skills for school music classes, or simply enjoying guitar as a long-term hobby, lessons are adapted to each student's pace and interests.
The Hawthorn studio is well located for students from Hawthorn, Hawthorn East, Kew, Camberwell, Balwyn, Canterbury, Richmond and surrounding suburbs, with weekday daytime and after-school lesson times available. It's within walking distance of Hawthorn and Glenferrie stations, as well as the 16, 70 and 75 tram lines.

I generally teach students from around age 7 and up, depending on readiness. Lessons are available for children, teenagers and adults, and are tailored to the student’s age, experience and learning style.

Definitely! I regularly teach complete beginners on drums, guitar and music theory. Lessons focus on building strong foundations, confidence and enjoyment from the very start.

Drum students are encouraged to have access to a basic practice setup at home. Guitar students will need their own instrument. I’m happy to advise on suitable beginner equipment.

For primary school–aged students, I usually recommend 30-minute lessons, or 45 minutes for students with particularly good focus.
For secondary students and adults, 45 or 60 minutes both work well. In 45 minutes we can get plenty done, while 60 minutes gives us more space to go deeper if you have the time. -
Yes. I work with students from a wide range of backgrounds and aim to create a respectful, inclusive and supportive learning environment for everyone. I have experience teaching students from different cultural backgrounds, students who identify as LGBTQIA+, and neurodivergent students, including those with ADHD. Lessons are adapted to suit each student’s needs, strengths and learning style.
